The substantial downsides for taxpayers of Question 5 are much harder to see than its obvious benefits. But those downsides are real, and they are why the Globe recommends a no vote on one of the most complicated questions on the Nov. 3 ballot. Question 5 would change an arcane state budget formula in a way that makes tax rebates — now a rare occurrence — significantly more common. In many, but not all, years, taxpayers would likely get a check back from the government for a few hundred dollars, according to an independent analysis of the measure by researchers at Tufts University. Of course, the promise of those rebates is Question 5’s biggest draw. Who doesn’t want an occasional check in the mail? But make no mistake: That money will have to come from somewhere, and the rebate would leave less for the government services Massachusetts residents rely on, from parks to roads to schools. Daylight saving time 2026 ending: When to 'fall back'
Despite a push in Congress to keep daylight saving time permanently, the proposal has stalled and most Americans are on track to "fall back" within a month. That means many Americans will "gain" an extra hour and switch clocks and timepieces back an hour. Before clock changes kick in, here's everything to know about daylight saving time. When does daylight saving time end? This autumn, daylight saving time is scheduled to end on Nov. 1, 2026 at 2:00 a.m. local time, which then becomes 1:00 a.m. local standard time. By Stephanie FreyWhich states do not observe daylight saving time? Not all 50 states participate in daylight saving time. Most of Arizona and Hawaii observe standard time year round, according to the Department of Transportation, as well as the U. S. territories of American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. The Navajo Nation in parts of Arizona is an exception to the current rule and observes daylight saving time, like its neighboring lands in New Mexico, Utah and Colorado. What is the proposal to keep daylight saving time permanently? Daylight saving time is governed by Title 15, Chapter 6, Subchapter IX - Standard Time of the U.

Who is Lorne Doerkson, B.C.’s next premier?
British Columbians got their best look so far at Lorne Doerkson on Saturday night, their premier-designate, and self-described “guy from Williams Lake.” The interim B. C. Conservative leader delivered a rollicking victory speech as he revelled in a sweeping majority win, secured in a snap provincial election called by outgoing Premier David Eby in a disastrous political miscalculation. Doerkson had emerged from obscurity to unify a fractured Opposition that was a political basket case just six weeks ago. The party had seen waves of defections under former leader Kerry-Lynne Findlay. The former bronco rider said he knew all about coming back from indignity. “I have watched a lot of people get thrown at a rodeo and I’ll say I’ve been thrown a few times myself,” Doerkson said.
